Citizens fight antibiotics in livestock

Modern medicine, including our modern world’s live-saving surgery procedures, depends on the effectiveness of antibiotics.  Unfortunately, their widespread overuse is spawning superbugs, and some are resistant to even our strongest antibiotics.  That’s why the consumer watchdog group, Food & Water Watch is promoting a special citizen action on Wednesday October 7th, asking Colorado’s U-S Senator Michael Bennett to support a bill that would put limits on the biggest user of antibiotics – which is factory farms.  The phone number for calling Senator Bennett’s office is  1-877-386-0172.

KGNU’s Shelley Schlender paid a visit to the Boulder Farmer’s Market, talking with citizen activists and scientists about the dangers of antibiotic overuse.
