Boulder PrideFest 2015

“We at Out Boulder have been working really hard to make sure that every member of our alphabet, the LGBT and Q communities have something to celebrate and something to bring forward.”

Mardi Moore, the Executive Director of Out Boulder says the theme for this years Boulder Pride Week is many voices, one community, to reflect the many identities in the LGBTQ community. Moore says there is a lot to celebrate this year during Pride Fest “from the national policies that Obama has led for transgender people in the military, for some healthcare changes…there is a lot to celebrate.”

One of the events happening during Pride Week is an event to honor Clela Rorex, the Boulder Clerk and Recorder who 40 years ago issued same sex marriage licenses. Shawn Fettig with Out Boulder says that was part of a movement that was happening across the US, “the story didn’t start or end there.” Fettig says following Stonewall in New York, organizations started to form representing the LGBTQ community including the Gay Liberation Front at CU Boulder, “it’s in this context that Clela rose to the surface.” Rorex will be honored Thursday at 4.30pm, at a reception at the Boulder Museum to launch the new Allies in Action exhibit.
