On today’s edition of A Public Affair, host Benita Lee speaks with Dr. Kevin McSweeney, a veterinarian and longtime dairy farmer, who owns and operates Five Freedoms Dairy. After years of working on large dairies, McSweeney dreamed of managing his own, much smaller herd, where he would not have to separate calves from their mothers, and where he would know the name of every animal. In this interview, McSweeney discusses the use of antibiotics, organic certification, and the differences between large, organic dairies and his small-scale operation.
