RTD hold public meetings on proposed fare changes

RTD is holding a series of meetings around the metro area to get public input into some proposed changes to its fare structure. One such meeting was in Boulder on April 6th where approximately 70 people gathered, many voicing opposition to some of the changes, including the elimination of the current transfer system. Currently, if you need to take several buses to complete a single journey, bus drivers issue a transfer on the first bus. Under the current proposals, those transfers would be eliminated, instead, riders would be encouraged to buy a day pass for the price of a return journey.

Elena Wilson told KGNU’s Jim Sawyer that she currently relies on the transfer system. Under the proposed elimination of free transfers she is looking at a 231% increase in her commute costs.
