DJ Feature: Alex Lauria

What shows do you host on KGNU and how long have you been with the station?

I host Sound Lab and Under The Floorboards each month! I also sometimes fill in for the Afternoon Sound Alternative, Kabaret, and Blues Legacy.

I’ve been with KGNU since March 2023. I actually almost started DJing over at KZMU in Moab, UT, where my sister lives since I spend a lot of time there. But she said “maybe do something a little closer…” haha.

Who is your favorite artist and/or album of all time?

All time is Joni Mitchell! But if we’re talking about artists still making music, then it’s definitely Weyes Blood – my fellow existential gemini 😉 (also Lana Del Rey …. lol)

Albums: Blue and Hejira by Joni are tied for my all time favs forever and ever since I was a teenager.

What is your Zodiac sign and what (if anything) does it say about you?

I’m a Gemini (ahhh!) with a Leo moon and Cancer rising 🌞🌒

If you could have any musician’s record collection, whose would it be?

Joe Bataan and Kim Gordon (as insane of a pairing as that is). I just can’t even imagine the kinds of music I’d find in both of their libraries – some gorgeous soul/r&b rarities from the 60s and 70s in Joe’s and then killer post punk/experimental rock in Kim’s. The perfect combo.

What song do you never get tired of playing on air?

Too many to pick! “The Mercury Girl” by The Cleaners From Venus from their record Living With Victoria Grey comes to mind first. It’s got that little edge to it I always look for but still catchy enough to fit into really any show I do 🙂

What is something most people would be surprised to learn about you?

I used to be the one behind all those silly memes on the KGNU Instagram a year or two back….. ;)🫨
