Scott Bottoms secures top spot on Republican ballot

State Representative Scott Bottoms has secured the top spot on the Republican primary ballot after winning the most support at the party’s state assembly in Pueblo. Bottoms earned about 45 percent of the votes, which put him ahead in a crowded field that started with more than a dozen candidates.

He’ll be joined on the ballot by Victor Marx, a first-time candidate who also cleared the threshold needed to compete in the June primary. Everyone else in the race fell short of the support required to move forward.

The outcome sets up a closely watched primary as Republicans try to regroup and position themselves in a state where Democrats currently hold every statewide office.

JBS and meatpacking employees in Greeley come to a contract agreement

JBS has finally come to a new contract agreement with their meatpacking employees in Greeley following a multi-week strike. The deal affects roughly 3,800 workers at the company’s Greeley plant, one of the largest beef-processing facilities in the country.

Workers had walked off the job for about three weeks, pushing for higher wages and better protections as costs of living continued to rise.

Under the agreement, employees will receive substantial raises over the next two years, along with a one-time bonus. The contract also ensures the company will cover the cost of protective equipment and limits increases to workers’ healthcare expenses.

Fort Collins to roll out redesigned bus network

Fort Collins is rolling out a redesigned Transfort bus network this August. City officials say they’re shifting resources away from underused routes to more popular ones where demand is higher.

Under the new plan, some routes will run every 10 to 20 minutes, especially near Colorado State University and along major corridors. Other routes in less-frequented areas will run less often, ranging from 30 minutes to an hour. The changes come as the city tries to manage rising costs and limited revenue. Officials say the goal is more reliable service and more riders overall.

Woman struck by lightning in Superior

A woman remains in critical condition after being struck by lightning while walking along a path in Superior. The incident happened Thursday evening near Lasalle Street, where witnesses reported hearing a loud boom before finding the woman unconscious beneath a tree that had been hit. Bystanders immediately began CPR as emergency crews rushed to the scene.

When first responders arrived, the woman had no pulse and was not breathing. After continued efforts, crews were able to restore a pulse and get her breathing on her own before transporting her to a hospital. She was later airlifted to a facility in the Denver metro area for further treatment.

Authorities say the woman’s family has since been located and is now by her side. She has not been publicly identified and remains in critical condition.
