What shows do you host on KGNU and how long have you been with the station?

I currently host Afternoon Sound Alternative on 3rd Fridays monthly (occasional 4th Fridays), and Electronic Air in rotation on Saturday nights about 6-8 times per year. I’ve previously hosted mix-shows on Dub Palace, Dusty Grooves, and Sound Lab. I went on air with KGNU for the first time in March of 2015. Into my 11th year now! “Time keeps on slippin’, slippin’, slippin’…”

Who is your favorite artist and/or album of all time?

I need to break this down in order to spread love to different categories of Artists.

Vocalist: Billie Holiday

Musician(s):

Lonnie Liston Smith; Takuya Nakamura aka Space Tak (tie)

Band: James Brown & The JB’s

Producer(s): The Mizell Brothers; FKJ; and DJ Premier (tie).

What is your Zodiac sign and what (if anything) does it say about you?

I was born the fire sign of Sagittarius. As far as I know- quite accurate. Free-spirited, adventurous, generous, peace-maker, dependable, and loyal. Seeing or finding the good in others, and the gift of teaching. An intense need for space- yet socially active. Thrive on change & freedom, don’t like feeling “stuck”. If caged or overly controlled, I become rebellious. Def have the “Gift of gab”, a relentless World explorer, expanding horizons for myself and others.

If you could have any musician’s record collection, whose would it be?

Joaquin Joe Claussell (Sacred Rhythm Music, Co-founder of Body & Soul, NYC)

What song do you never get tired of playing on air?

“Winter In America” by Brian Jackson featuring Rich Medina & Josh Milan (Masters at Work 12″ Vocal Mix)

What is something most people would be surprised to learn about you?

I moved from Colorado to NYC at the age of 21 without a job to follow my dreams within Music, Journalism, and DJ Culture. 15 years later, I taught English as a second language to elementary & middle school students in South Korea for 2 years (and DJ’d in Seoul, Tokyo, and Bangkok on weekends & Holiday breaks). I’m a proud Member of The Zulu Nation and Disabled Veteran.
