Ark Conduit Veto Override Scheduled

The US House will decide this week whether to override President Trump’s veto of a Colorado water pipeline bill. The House received the veto message last week and postponed consideration until today. Politico first reported the House would try to override the veto and said leadership believes it could be successful.

Trump used his veto power on two bills that passed congress via voice vote, indicating strong support for the measures. The Colorado bill, sponsored by Republican Lauren Boebert, would extend the payback period for local entities involved in the Arkansas Valley Conduit in southeastern Colorado.

This story was reported by the Colorado Capitol News Alliance.

Colorado Leaders Push Back Against Childhood Vaccine Recs

Colorado health officials are breaking with the federal government, announcing the state will not adopt the Center for Disease Control’s (CDC) newly reduced childhood immunization schedule. State leaders say their guidance remains grounded in “long-standing science” rather than recent changes overseen by vaccine critic Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

The Colorado Sun reports that new federal guidelines scale back standard recommendations from 17 diseases to 11, putting shots for the flu and COVID-19 on a consult-your-doctor basis. In response, Colorado’s Health Department is urging families to follow American Academy of Pediatrics standards, which continue to recommend annual flu and COVID shots for all children.

Medical experts warn the shift could lead to a drop in vaccination rates and a rise in preventable diseases like measles. Despite the changes, Colorado law ensures that state-regulated insurance plans must continue to cover all vaccines recommended as of early 2025.

Nederland Trustees Approve Eldora Purchase

The Nederland Board of Trustees has officially approved a landmark $120 million purchase of Eldora Mountain Resort, making the popular ski area municipally owned. The move is expected to eventually transition roughly 700 resort staff members into town employees.

The purchase is funded through revenue bonds, which are repaid by the resort’s own profits from ticket sales and concessions rather than taxpayer money. Current owner POWDR will continue to operate the mountain for a two-year transition period before management shifts to the local coalition.

According to Denver7, Eldora will remain on the Ikon Pass, although residents hope the deal restores the mountain’s small-town roots feel and keeps revenue within the community. Town officials maintain they have sufficient reserves to cover financial risks, such as potential losses during low-snow years.
