You or someone you know may have received a $75 speeding ticket in the mail recently. Civil penalties for exceeding the speed limit by 10 miles or above are now active in the Colorado 119 and I-25 North work zones.
The Colorado Department of Transportation says the use of speed cameras in high-risk areas like work zones has major potential to save lives.
Since the warning period began in March, CDOT has seen a significant decrease in excessive speeding in the I-25 work zone, making the program one of Colorado’s most successful traffic safety advances in many years.
KGNU’s Lily Sharp spoke with Benjamin Acimovic, the Colorado Speed Enforcement Program’s program manager, to learn more.
