We Rise: The Earth Guardians Guide to Building a Movement that Restores the Planet

Xiuhtezcatl Martinez, a 17 year old indigenous climate activist and hip-hop artist has become a powerful voice on the front lines of a global youth-led environmental movement.

From addressing the UN Climate talks in Rio at the age of 6, to growing a youth-led environmental movement, Earth Guardians, that has thousands of young people in more than 35 countries working to combat climate change and address social justice issues.

Xiuhtezcatl was one of 21 young plaintiffs that filed a constitutional climate lawsuit, called Juliana v. U.S., against the U.S. government in the U.S. District Court for the District of Oregon in 2015. Their suit alleges that through the government’s affirmative actions that cause climate change, it has violated the youngest generation’s constitutional rights to life, liberty, and property, as well as failed to protect essential public trust resources.
