Since 2012, arborist and urban forester, R.J. Laverne, has been studying how the loss of trees changes urban sounds and affects human stress levels. The results demonstrate how valuable trees are in cities like Denver for absorbing sound and helping us relax. Laverne says that our sense of hearing never turns off. From birdsongs to police sirens, we are constantly listening for sounds that signal whether we are safe or in danger.
