UndocMonologues – Elevating the Voices of Undocumented Immigrants

In honor of Martin Luther King Jr Day, Motus Theater is premiering the UndocMonologues, featuring stories from the heart by undocumented community leaders on the frontline of U.S. immigration policy.  There will be two unique performances on MLK Day at the Dairy Arts Center in Boulder.

At the free 3pm family friendly performance, Teresita Lozano who sang at the 2019 gubernatorial inauguration of Jared Polis, will be performing with the monologists including Kiara Chavez. At 6pm, jazz great, Robert Johnson (who sang with Stevie Wonder and Stan Getz) will be responding musically to the monologues, including one performed by Laura Peniche.

Motus Theater’s UndocuAmerica interrupts the dehumanizing portrayals of immigrants by encouraging thoughtful engagement on the challenges facing the undocumented community and the assets immigrants bring to our country.

Motus worked with ten undocumented leaders to help them write powerful stories about their lives. Stories told are on a variety of themes, such as: the pain of being categorized as a criminal; losing family to deportation; the challenge of attending college without documentation; and being rejected by the country in which you were raised.
