Thousands Gather at Colorado Rallies Protesting Separation of Migrant Families

On Saturday June 30th, at Civic Center Park in Denver thousands of people gathered to protest the Trump Administration’s zero tolerance immigration policy.  People of all ages and races listened to speeches and chanted slogans critical of families being separated. Some carried signs saying “keep the kids – and deport the racists” and many supported abolishing ICE – the federal immigration and customs enforcement agency.

Others wore shirts with words like “I care, Do you?” in reference to a recent shirt worn by first lady Melania Trump.  Among those at the Denver protest were Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper, Denver Mayor Michael Hancock and U.S. Representative Ed Perlmutter.

In Boulder County protesters gathered at numerous locations. A rally took place at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Boulder where an immigrant is taking sanctuary to fight a deportation order.  Another took place at the Frasier retirement community.

In Longmont protesters lined up along Main Street. The Daily Camera reports that people have been gathering there on a weekly basis to show their resistance to various Trump policies.

Demonstrations took place in a dozen cities across the State. In addition to those in Denver and Boulder, people protested in Colorado Springs, Glenwood Springs and Durango among others.
