This local advocate says we’re living under fascism – but offers ways to resist

In the weeks since Donald Trump was inaugurated into office, he’s signed 45 Executive orders. They range in scope and focus, but it’s safe to say the majority are based in discrimination and conservatism, and have the potential to change the trajectory of millions of Americans’ lives dramatically.

During the election, many left-leaning advocates feared that Trump would turn the U.S. into a fascist state. And just a few weeks into Trump’s second term as president, some activists say we’re already there.

One of those people is Carlos Álvarez-Aranyos.

Just last week, Alvarez-Aranyos launched American Opposition – a new organization dedicated to mobilizing Americans against the rise of fascism in our country. Carlos is a political veteran who oversaw strategic communications efforts for two political nonprofits – Protect Democracy (2020) and The American Sunlight Project (2024).

Álvarez-Aranyos joined KGNU’s Jackie Sedley in-studio to talk about American Opposition, as well as protests planned for today.
