On this episode of A Public Affair, you’ll learn about The Mountain-Ear – that’s Nederland’s only local newspaper. It was founded in 1977, and serves not only Nederland’s population of over 1,500 people but also surrounding communities across Peak to Peak. They consider themselves the voice of the Peak to Peak, and publish in both Boulder County and Gilpin County. First, you’ll hear a conversation KGNU’s Jackie Sedley had with Barbara Hardt, the Managing Editor of The Mountain-Ear. We talk about what’s top of mind for Nederland residents these days, and about her perspective on the importance of local publications during an era of alarming shutdowns of local media outlets across the country. Then, you’ll hear an episode of The Mountain-Ear Podcast, featuring stories from their publication archives.
