It’s being dubbed as the DARK act or Deny Americans the Right to Know bill and it was passed by the House of Representatives this Summer and now goes to the Senate. The bill preempts state and local authority to label and regulate genetically engineered (GE) foods.
Activists in Colorado are trying to raise awareness of this as it would essentially stop efforts like the efforts in 2014 to have Colorado label food with GMO ingredients. Melissa Munoz, who was a volunteer with the unsuccessful Prop 104 in 2014, the Colorado mandatory labeling of GMOs initiative, says that the DARK act would stop states like Colorado from trying to pass similar legislation in the future.
