The Brink: Fracking Operations Rattle Thorton Residents in Their Homes

Hydraulic fracturing developments have been popping up along the E-470 corridor, a toll road outside of Thorton. Many area residents have raised concerns about potential dangers to environmental and human health.

There is an on-going dispute about how close drilling operations should be located near residences and schools. Local governments and community members have fought against the state for the authority to restrict or outright prohibit drilling in their areas.

Conflicts have permeated all levels of politics, including the statehouse and the governor’s race. CU Boulder students Jake Foutz and Gabe Semenza have the story as part of The Brink.
