Taking Action: KGNU Series Introducing Peace Activist Eve Tetaz

Eve Tetaz is the next guest to our series on the Early Morning News we call Taking Action. Peace and social justice activists will be highlighted to learn what events shaped their activism today.

On January 29, 2015, Tetaz of Washington DC faced six months in federal prison for having crossed onto the grounds at the School of the Americas/Western Hemispheric Institution for Security Cooperation in Columbus, Georgia on November 23, 2014. This action followed many years of tradition by activists performing similar acts onto the base at Fort Benning. At her January trial, she told the judge that she wanted to ask the soldiers if they knew where the missing Ayotzinapa Mexican students were.

Instead of receiving the usual six month sentence, she was ordered instead to pay a $5000 fine. In the photos below, she is pictured with her attorney, Bill Quigley who has represented many School of the Americas Watch activists as well as KGNU’s own reporter, Cecelia Kluding who was arrested in 2010 covering the School of the Americas Watch annual vigil along with 3 other reporters and 19 other activists all whose charges were later dismissed.
