A new documentary about a special unit within Los Angeles’ Animal Services called SMART: Specialized Mobile Animal Rescue Team takes a look at the 12 men and women help save animals in the most extreme conditions.
The film was edited and shot by Loveland resident Tory Maurer and features another Coloradan, Dr. Leslie Irvine, a sociologist at CU Boulder. Dr. Irvine’s book “Filling the Ark: Animal Welfare in Disasters,” about her work following Hurricane Katrina, was very influential on the film’s director Justin Zimmerman.
