Children are usually rowdy and excited, and so stories focused on getting them to sleep can be incredibly helpful for parents. Larson Sher worked at a kindergarten, and worked with children during lunch, rest, and after recess. This meant that she’d have to find stories that would help the children calm down, relax, and fall asleep after lunch was incredibly important to her. Later, she took a writing class in which she would take walks through nature. This is where the characters featured in her book came to her.

The art for the book was done by Christine Summerfield, who mainly does felt art. Her art fits in well with the children’s book, and the comforting bedtime feeling that it conveys. “She brought these stories to life in a way I only dreamed possible”.

Dana Sher will be hosting a story time at the Boulder Bookstore on Sunday March 3rd at 11am where she will read from Sleepytime Stories.
