On August 5th 2023 Denver Police were called to a domestic dispute at the home of Brandon Cole and the Cole family. Within 46 seconds of contacting Brandon, a DPD officer shot and killed the 36 year-old father of three in the street in front of his family. Brandon was holding a magic marker, which officers later said they thought was a weapon.
On September 19th 2023, community leaders joined with the Cole family and legal team in a press conference at the Dayton Opportunity Center in Aurora demanding justice for Brandon. We hear from spokespeople representing State Senator Rhonda Fields and Denver City Council Member Shontel Lewis, Ministers including legendary Bishop Ason Philips, Jeremiah of the Denver NAACP, KGNU's own Candice Bailey, and lead attorney representing Brandon Cole's family Robert Dechello.
