Sensi: Marijuana News – 2 years of legal marijuana sales in Colorado

As we head into the new year, Leland Rucker reflects on the last 2 years of legal retail marijuana sales. “Here in Colorado it’s become the new normal. There are 70 businesses in Boulder that cater to cannabis in one way or another and there have got to be lots of other ancillary businesses that are doing the same.”

Rucker says the transition into legal marijuana has so far been smooth for the state which is still working out ways to regulate the new industry “we still have the banking challenge…I think the biggest challenge we’re going to have in the future here is the influence of big money. Right now the laws state that you have to be a resident here in Colorado for 2 years in order to get into the marijuana business. I think there will be a lot of people who’ll want to change that law to get more outside money into Colorado and I think that’s going to be a real serious problem as we go along. I’m sure that when the legislature goes in session here in just a few days, there are going to be lobbyist in their ears telling them that we should be changing those kind of laws.”
