Rumi with a View

“I came back to the poetry and it was like finding a lost beloved and that’s how I reconnected to the roots.”

Ari Honarvar is a poet and performance artist who is originally from Iran. She came to the US as a refugee at the age of 14.

She says she was able to reconnect to her culture through the poetry of Rumi.

“For probably a decade it was survival and immersing myself into the American culture. I lost my accent, I sounded like a Valley Girl for the longest time, but it felt like something was missing and I came back to the poetry and it was like finding a lost beloved and that’s how I reconnected to the roots.”

She now uses Rumi paired with musical accompaniment to reach out across cultures and religious boundaries. She will be performing her piece Rumi With A View on Friday April 1st at lunchtime at the Highland City Club in Boulder and at 7.30pm at Nevei Kodesh in Boulder.
