Resistance Radio: Denver Friends of Standing Rock

Resistance Radio is a regular feature on Mondays on KGNU, shining a spotlight on groups that are engaged in activism and resistance.

Denver Friends of Standing Rock host weekly Standing Rock update meetings at the Four Winds American Indian Council 201 W 5th Ave, Denver.

Joseph Medicine Robe says that the focus now is on the legal battle facing the water protectors.  “It’s the most pressing issue right now is to have legal representation for these 800 water protectors that have been out there and have been arrested and now facing trial in North Dakota.”  The charges range from misdemeanor to felony charges and the trials have already begun.

Denver Friends of Standing Rock meet every Wednesday from 7-9pm.  Joseph Medicine Robe says that the focus of the meetings is on education and informing others about other tactics such as divesting from banks that are funding DAPL.  “We’re getting a movement for divestment from these banks which are funding these destructive and toxic projects…that’s another aspect that all citizens  can get involved in.”
