In an effort to amplify the work being done on the streets every single day by dedicated changemakers standing up for justice and speaking out against those in power who are attacking our friends and neighbors, we’re going to start posting a “Resistance Calendar” to our website on Thursdays.

Ongoing Petitions:
What: Petitions to free Mahmoud Khalil
CAIR Action launched an Action Alert Form to make it easy for folks to contact their representative to demand support for Mahmoud Khalil: bit.ly/supportmahmoud
Why: Immigration agents with the Department of Homeland Security have detained Mahmoud Khalil, a leader of the Gaza solidarity encampment at Columbia University in New York. Khalil is an Algerian citizen of Palestinian descent, a green card holder and married to a U.S. citizen. His wife is eight months pregnant. Trump’s White House Press Secretary said that Khalil’s green card will be revoked and he will face deportation now for breaking the law, but for being “adversarial to the foreign policy of the United States.” Activists say the Trump administration is trying to make an example out of Khalil, to prevent others from using their free speech rights to speak out against the federal government’s decisions. These petitions let your House and Senate Reps, as well as other government officials, know you find this decision unjust and illegal and to demand their support in protecting him from deportation.
What: Urge Congress to Protect Public Media Funding
Link(s): https://protectmypublicmedia.org/urge-congress-email/
Why: Organizers say, “Urge Congress to protect and sustain the essential funding that keeps public media accessible and strong. Send a message to your lawmakers now.”
What: Tell Congress: STOP the Musk Budget
Link(s): https://www.commoncause.org/actions/tell-congress-stop-the-musk-budget/
Why: Organizers say, “We’re sending a clear message to Congress: With government funding running out soon, Congress must seize this opportunity to exercise its power as a co-equal branch of government and STOP Elon Musk’s hostile takeover. The truth is, Musk is already trying to shut down our government, one mass firing or one shuttered agency at a time. Following the same playbook as previous government funding fights is effectively co-signing Musk’s looting of our federal government. Our Constitution is clear: Congress controls the “power of the purse” and how our tax dollars are spent – not the president, and certainly not an unelected, unconfirmed billionaire like Elon Musk. We must treat this like the constitutional crisis it is. If you agree Congress can’t just sit back and watch Musk hijack our government, join us to speak out. Add your name to tell Congress to STOP the dangerous Musk budget.”
What: Bring Kilmar Abrego Garcia Home
Link(s): https://sign.moveon.org/petitions/bring-kilmar-abrego-garcia-home
https://wearecasa.org/updates/demand-justice-for-kilmar-armando-abrego-garcia/
Why: Organizers say, “Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a longtime Maryland resident and father of three, was illegally deported to a notorious megaprison in El Salvador—despite a U.S. immigration judge’s ruling that he should remain in the country. Even after the Supreme Court ordered that Kilmar’s deportation was unlawful, Trump and Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele have refused to comply. Instead, they doubled down—laughing off the ruling, smearing Kilmar as a “terrorist,” and refusing to take action to bring him home. Kilmar’s deportation was the result of what the Trump administration called an “administrative error.” Yet rather than fixing that mistake, they’ve condemned him to indefinite detention in CECOT, a prison infamous for inhumane conditions, where human rights experts warn of torture and cruel, degrading, and inhumane treatment.”
What: Free Jeanette Vizguerra
Why: “Jeanette Vizguerra, a Colorado community leader and mother, has led the fight against her own deportation since 2009. She is the mother of four children – one of whom is a permanent resident, and the other three are U.S. citizens — as well as a grandmother. ICE detained Ms. Vizguerra without warning on March 17, 2025. The agency appears to be readying to deport her, despite not possessing a valid deportation order. As of 10:15am on Tuesday, March 18, she continues to be detained inside GEO. Her attorneys have raised concerns about serious legal errors. If ICE does not change course, they will be ripping her away from her family and community without any concern for her due process rights.”
