The July selection for the Radio Bookclub is All Our Yesterdays: A Novel of Lady Macbeth by Joel Morris.
Morris’ debut novel is set ten years before the events of Shakespeare’s historic play. It provides a feminist reframing of Lady Macbeth who was granddaughter of a forgotten Scottish king. As a young girl she carries the guilt of her mother’s death and the weight of an unknowable prophecy. She is married, at fifteen, to the Mormaer of Moray, and experiences firsthand the violence of a sadistic husband. When the Mormaer is murdered she falls in love with and marries Macbeth and confronts a world of masculine power.
This episode was broadcast on KGNU on Thursday July 24th at 9.00am.
