Pussy Grabs Back Denver Rally

“We’re not willing to talk about it very publicly, we’re not certainly willing to have very honest conversations about it, and when it affects one in three women globally, this is happening to everyone we know.”

Much has been made of Donald Trumps statements about women, and about assaulting women. A rally happening Wednesday October 26th at the state capitol in Denver seeks to fight back against those comments and the broader rape culture that organizers say persists in society.

Organizers say “Gender violence, rape culture, and equality are being ignored, brushed aside, and condoned in the political discussion and the media. We need to use our voices, and our vote to ‘grab back’ against sexism and misogyny. We must show our strength is in our numbers and that we will not excuse or condone words or actions that promote further sexual violence.”

Shannon Galpin, author and activist, founded the non-profit Mountain2Mountain and the activist organization, Combat Apathy to fight for women’s rights globally, is one of the organizers.  Galpin and her sister are both rape survivors and she says that women are experiencing a collective PTSD due to the comments being made by Donald Trump and the perpetuating of rape culture in society as a result.

“I think that we we’ve seen particularly in some of the high profile cases lately, like Brock Turner, where the judge himself said “I don’t want to ruin this young man’s life” even though he had plead guilty, it’s an unfortunate situation that we see time and time again that gender violence and rape especially and the rape culture that leads to assault is still very stigmatized. We’re not willing to talk about it very publicly, we’re not certainly willing to have very honest conversations about it, and when it affects one in three women globally, this is happening to everyone we know.”
