Progressive Theater in Denver is breaking the conventional mold for theater by featuring the regional premiere of Amy Herzog’s Belleville at multiple theater locations throughout the Denver area. Belleville is a slow burning drama about the lies we tell ourselves to keep the people we love. It follows two young married Americans, Zack and Abby, living in Paris in a “funky bohemian apartment in up-and-coming Belleville”, as revelations slowly begin to unravel their lives. By collaborating with Denver theater companies, Progressive Theater is presenting Belleville as a fundraiser to each theater space that serves as a host space. They’ve already raised over $1,100 for Vintage Theater in Aurora, and next up, they’ll be at the Buntport Theater in Denver. KGNU’s Veronica Straight-Lingo spoke to Elizabeth Nye, the Director of Belleville and Candace Joice, the co-founder of Progressive Theater about the company and the show.
