We’re nearing the six month mark into Donald’s Trump current term as U.S. president. Inauguration Day both feels like it was yesterday and several decades ago all at once.
The continual buildup of anger from individuals across the country at Trump’s racist, sexist, and homophobic ideologies and directives has only gained momentum over the past several months.
But so have Trump’s attacks. DEI initiatives have been cut, federal grants for arts orgs have been cancelled, undocumented individuals – including some right here in Colorado – have been unlawfully detained without due process, LBGTQ+ rights have been stripped away. The list goes on, but the fear-inducing tactics used by the current federal administration are leading some to put their heads in the sand and hope it all goes away on its own.
For others, the shock value of so many of Trump’s unthinkable actions are leading them to feel numb to it all, maybe feeling powerless or unable to contribute to meaningful change.
That’s where local activists and organizers come in – like those with Denver’s Party for Socialism and Liberation, commonly known by the acronym PSL. The community-based organization believes that people power is the answer to a corrupt and ineffective system.
Elle Taylor is one of the organizers with PSL. She joined KGNU’s Jackie Sedley live on the Morning Magazine to talk about the current status of local organized movements in Denver.
