OutSources – Bayard Rustin and Dr. Martin Luther King

The OutSources collective reintroduces you to a show from our Outsources archive, “Our Place in the Dream: Bayard Rustin,” hosted and produced by Shevonne Nelson, former Outsources host and Asst. Director of the LGBTQ center at CU Boulder.

His mastermind and unflagging leadership of the 1963 massive March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom was hidden due to his identity as an out gay man. Mr. Rustin is a barely known hero whose leadership we need today.

Recognizing this, Michelle and Barack Obama with Netflix co-produced “Rustin” an insightful and compelling 2023 movie directed by George Wolfe and starring Colman Domingo who was nominated for a Golden Globe, SAG and Academy award for his role as Bayard.
