Hinaleimoana Wong-Kalu is a Kanaka Maoli (native Hawaiian) teacher, activist, cultural practitioner and community leader on Oahu who is recognized throughout the Hawaiian islands and beyond.

Respectfully called Kuma (teacher) Hina, she was in Colorado to deliver a keynote address and screen a film about her work at the Transforming Gender conference at CU Boulder.
A proud and out two-spirited (mahu) transgender woman since her youth, she has received many awards including national recognition through the Ellison Onizuka Award in Education.
She is chair of the O’ahu Burial Council over seeing management of ancestral burial grounds. She underscores the need for aloha in teaching and all that she and we do. She urges us to focus on the we not the me.
