How Collectives are Supporting Trans People in Prison
OutSources host Yvonne Krumrey speaks with Dana, a nonbinary member of a collective of trans people in and out of the prison system on the West Coast.
Dana shares stories of the struggles that trans people face in prison. For incarcerated trans folks, access to gender-affirming clothing and medical care is often inaccessible. Dana tells of how solitary confinement is used as a punishment for being a target of transphobic violence, and we discuss the ways the laws that are meant to protect incarcerated people from violence are rarely taken seriously.
