New Frontiers at the Longmont Symphony

The Longmont Symphony has a new conductor and music director, Elliot Moore, who is in the middle of his inaugural season. Moore told KGNU’s Maeve Conran that things are going well for the symphony with an increase in ticket sales and season subscribers. “Things are going in a wonderful direction for this orchestra.”

The 2017-2018 season has been called “New Frontiers” with Moore seeking to balance new music with some more classical works.

“One of the things that I really want to make sure that I’m doing is relating to our audience. So I’ve picked various kinds of music that I think will resonate with a Longmont and Boulder County audience.”

On Saturday February 24th, at the Vance Brand Civic auditorium, 600 E. Mountain View Ave., Longmont, the symphony will perform the world premier of Colorado composer Michael Udow’s “Mountain Myths” along with Tchaikovsky’s epic Symphony No. 4.

“I think that one of the things that I always make sure that I do is give something for everyone throughout the season. So I don’t want to just do a season of all Tchaikovsky or something like that. I want to make sure there are new pieces that are either being performed or new pieces, as an example, that haven’t been performed in this region in the recent past, so I’m always making sure that there is a balance.”
