Not all of my selections are Cajun and Zydeco. Still, I included them because they are among the most misunderstood and underrepresented forms of American music because of the deeper immersion required to appreciate them. That’s why I selected Louis Michot, Corey Ledet Zydeco, Cameron Fontenot, 4Horses (no space between ‘4’ and ‘Horses’).
Other selections are in the blues realm: Ghalia Volt, Jason Ricci, Julian Primeaux, and Dean Zucchero. Johnny Angel writes deep country songs suitable for our Honky Tonk Heroes program, and everyone loves Leftover Salmon, whose great covers album, Grass Roots, revealed its many influences.
All of these are albums I listened to repeatedly to write a compelling and thoughtful review during the year.
