Boston-based band Twisted Pine joined host Cameron Henderson live in the KGNU studio during their Colorado tour to discuss their new album Love Your Mind and share a few live performances. The group—featuring Chris Sartori, Dan Bui, Kathleen Parks, and Anh Phung—talked about the evolution of their sound, calling this album their “final form” after years of artistic exploration. They also chatted about tour stops in places like Carbondale and Buena Vista, upcoming shows at the Velvet Elk Lounge and Cervantes, and even a semi-private house concert in Fort Collins. (Studio Session: 6/26/25)
Cameron Henderson: We’ve got Twisted Pine in the house. Let’s see if we can get this going. All your mics are now on. Twisted Pine, welcome to the studio.
Twisted Pine: Hey! Thanks for having us.
Cameron Henderson: Twisted Pine’s not just a brewery down the street—it’s also a band floating around the countryside. They’ve come through Colorado. They just went to Carbondale, then through Buena Vista—BV, as we like to call it. Now you’ve landed here in Boulder, Colorado. Chris Sartori on bass, Dan Bui on mandolin, Kathleen Parks on fiddle, and Anh Phung on flute. You guys just kick off a song—we’ll talk after.

Cameron Henderson: You’re tuned to KGNU, live in the studio. We’ve got Twisted Pine, in case you’re just tuning in. They’re floating through Colorado, representing their new LP Love Your Mind. Hi guys—welcome!
Twisted Pine: Hey! Hey! Thanks.
Cameron Henderson: Let me turn you up here. Well, what do you want to talk about? What do you have to say?
Twisted Pine: Good question. Well, it’s a bit early. Let us think about it for a minute.
Cameron Henderson: What brings you to Colorado, and where are you going after this?
Twisted Pine: Well, we’ve been touring around, and we’re about to hit up the Velvet Elk in Boulder tonight.
Cameron Henderson: And we’ll be giving away some tickets for that show at the end of this run here.
Twisted Pine: Yeah, we hope someone out there wins those!
Cameron Henderson: Well, you guys sound fantastic. For the listeners out there, we’ve got them crammed in here into the studio, old-school style. Our engineer’s not around for our normal setup, but hopefully it sounds good on my end. Okay—what else? Tell me about the LP.
Twisted Pine: Well, it’s a record that—I think most people would share this opinion—it’s kind of our final form. A lot of the records leading up to it were us discovering what our actual sound is. And I think this record embodies what we’ve been going for the whole time. So it feels like a really nice destination.
Cameron Henderson: Mature.
Twisted Pine: Yeah. Yeah.
Cameron Henderson: Mature. Okay, good. We like that. All right, let’s play another song and then we’ll talk on the back end of that.
Twisted Pine: Okay. We’ll do an instrumental that features Jerry Douglas on the record. This is called Green Flash.

Cameron Henderson: You are listening to Twisted Pine live here in the studio at KGNU. One of the great pleasures we have as DJs—and as we used to have—is live music here in the studio. So we’ve got Chris Sartori, Dan Bui, Kathleen Parks, and Anh Phung. Kathleen, I gotta get this out of the way—I saw on your Facebook, you like the kombucha that my wife crushes by the case—after case—after case. The ginger lemon?
Twisted Pine: The ginger lemon—Health-Ade! And now they have some Belly Boost.
Cameron Henderson: The ginger lemon, the ginger pineapple pie… I mean, it’s a full-blown addiction at this point.
Twisted Pine: It’s on our rider, actually.
Cameron Henderson: You should get a sponsorship.
Twisted Pine: It’s funny you mention that because they just sent us four huge cases of Health-Ade.
Cameron Henderson: Are they in-house here?
Twisted Pine: They shipped them to Boston. So we had them over there and thought they were gonna last for the whole touring season—and we went through them in about a week and a half.
Cameron Henderson: Yeah, that makes sense. They’re easy to go through. Well, up to the Health-Ade!
Twisted Pine: Yeah. Yeah.
Cameron Henderson: Well, we’re happy to have you—Twisted Pine out of the Boston area. Also some Canada?
Twisted Pine: Yep.
Cameron Henderson: We’re just thrilled to have you guys. They’re playing the Velvet Elk Lounge tonight, and then Cervantes tomorrow. So you’ve got two opportunities to check them out. I’ll be giving tickets away after they get off for the Velvet Elk Lounge tonight, so stay tuned for that. In the meantime, any parting words for people?
Twisted Pine: There’s actually one more opportunity for anybody in the Fort Collins area that wants to see us. We’re playing a small house show—it’s a semi-private event called Moon Shadow Meadow, and that’s going to be Sunday afternoon. If anybody’s interested in coming to see us in Fort Collins, we’ve got information on our website about how to RSVP for that.
Cameron Henderson: Okay, very cool. We love the house events. Yeah—one time I got invited years ago to go see Gregory Alan Isakov in the mountains outside of Boulder. And it was like a great potluck too—the food was out of control. It was a double pleasure.
All right, you heard it here first, folks on KGNU. Twisted Pine in the house. What are you going to close us out with?
Twisted Pine: All right—we’re gonna close it out with a party song about being at a bluegrass festival. It is summertime, so it feels fitting. This is about the late-night events that go on. You guys know about bluegrass.
