Millennium Mixtape: DJ Jules

Well, here we go…

I took this project and viewed it through the lens of which albums had the biggest impact upon my life over the last 25 years. There are other albums out there that could absolutely fall under the category of ‘Best’, but this list is full of the ones that stuck with me the most. Maybe I used Best as- Beautifully Experiencing Soundtracks (of my) Time.

These are the ones I listened to from start to finish. They are the ones that were in my yellow Walkman or in my 6 disc stereo system. Some of them have been used for late night sweaty dance parties. Others have been used for school projects where I’ve had to write about the power music. I’ve driven across the country to these albums on repeat and traveled over seas singing these songs. Each of these albums conjures up a beautiful photo book of moments that mean the world to me, one where I’m still able to pull up stories with very specific details.

I didn’t pick albums where I only listened to a few songs. Some of my favorite songs are not on this list. Some of my favorite artists aren’t present. This list has seen me through death, divorce, marriage, relationships, friendships, parenting, love, travel, puberty, loneliness, pure bliss, and all things in between these monumental bits and feelings.

Thanks for helping me slow down to reflect on the subtle sounds that brought me to this very moment in time.
