Dr. Ralph Stanley passed away on June 23, 2016, after a lifetime of performing bluegrass music. He began playing in 1946 with his brother, Carter Stanley in The Stanley Brothers, and continued to perform throughout his life as the leader of The Clinch Mountain Boys.

The International Bluegrass Music Association (IMBA) has published a retrospective of his life and work, and were gracious to share this publication with us here. Dr. Ralph Stanley Remembered

Dr. Ralph Stanley & His Clinch Mountain Boys were one of the highlights of RockyGrass 2012. Saturday evening, Dr. Ralph Stanley took the stage with his Clinch Mountain Boys for a magical festival moment. At age 85, it was a rare and treasured experience to hear Dr. Ralph Stanley and witness an American music icon. These are the highlights from the set that were broadcast on our 2012 festival coverage. (From July 28, 2012)

Every year since 2008, we have been broadcasting live from RockyGrass. Our festival coverage expanded in 2012 to offer selected highlights from our broadcasts online. In 2016, we’ll be streaming the festival in its entirety here on KGNU Music as well as broadcasting on our airwaves Friday, Saturday, and Sunday mornings.
