The number of backlogged applications for legal residents of the U.S. to become naturalized citizens has surged across the nation – causing wait times to double in the last few years. The average wait in the naturalization process is 10 months – far beyond the 120 days mandated.
A report released by the Colorado State Advisory Committee to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights shows that Colorado is one of the worst offenders in the country. The report was headed up by Ming Hsu Chen, a law professor at the University of Colorado and a member of the Colorado State Advisory Committee to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights.
