Colorado’s Medicaid program now covers doula care for all pregnant and postpartum members. A doula is a non-medical companion who can support pregnant and postpartum people physically and emotionally. They can offer advice on ways to cope with labor, assist with lactation and discuss their clients’ concerns about pregnancy and parenthood. KGNU’s Jackie Sedley spoke with Adela Flores-Brennan- Medicaid Director for Colorado department of health care policy and financing. As well as, Emma Lemke- Director of Outreach and Communications for Mama Bird: a Colorado nonprofit that serves BIPOC pregnant individuals and their families through pregnancy and parenthood.
