May Day Celebration in Boulder

On May 1 in celebration of May Day or International Workers Day, the Boulder Chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) held an event at the Boulder Bandshell where people came out, despite the rain, to hear from a variety of speakers. KGNU’s Maeve Conran was one of them and she caught up with Christopher Barnes of the Boulder DSA.

“We wanted to get a bunch of local activist organizations together to kind of think about the intersectionality of labor and what we mean by that is essentially how the fight for labor and the fight for working people touches so many other aspects of the fight for social justice.”

Barnes believes that socialism and the DSA is popular right now in the US.  “I can speak from only my perspective, I think we’re doing very well and I think we connect with what people actually want and I think our message really resonates with all sorts of people across the political spectrum who have kind of been de politicized and lost faith in the two parties.”
