The Lafayette Youth Advisory Commission held Lafayette’s 17th annual Martin Luther King Day event on January 19th, 2022 at the Centaurus High School parking lot. As an effort to advance Martin Luther King’s legacy, LYAC stands with Dr. King’s family in marking this year’s event as a call to action to collectively fight against restrictive voting laws targeting communities of color. This KGNU Media Gardens feature is a live recording of the 1st half of the event, which showcases speeches from LYAC representatives and Colorado’s elected officials, as well as a slam poetry performance by a representative from CU Boulder’s CU Engage program.
Special thanks to Centaurus High School, CU Engage, the Lafayette Public Library, the Lafayette Recreation Center, and the Lafayette Police Department for supporting the event.
