ICE targets apartment buildings in Aurora and Denver

Federal law enforcement agencies conducted a large-scale immigration raid across Denver and Aurora yesterday. Armed federal agents started the raids at dawn and continued through much of the day, according to The Denver Post.

The agents went door-to-door at targeted apartment complexes. They were spotted at the Edge of Lowry, Whispering Pines, and Cedar Run apartments, among other locations.

Federal agents were armed, wore masks, deployed flashing smoke grenades, and zip-tied detainees.

The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, said via social media that it was searching for over 100 members of the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua, and was working with: the FBI, the Drug Enforcement Administration, Customs and Border Protection, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco Firearms and Explosives, and the U.S. Marshals Service.

ICE officials reportedly did not respond to repeated inquiries from The Post asking how many people were taken into custody, and where they were being processed or detained.

Bill banning sale and manufacture of semi automatic guns loses Democratic backer

A Democratic state senator who cosponsored a new bill banning certain semiautomatic weapons has changed his mind.

Senator Marc Snyder of Manitou Springs says he didn’t fully understand the potential impacts of Senate Bill 3 when he attached his name to it. He now plans to vote against the measure.

SB3 would ban the manufacture and sale of certain semiautomatic rifles, shotguns, and handguns that can accept detachable ammunition magazines. Snyder told The Colorado Sun that when he signed onto the bill, he thought it was solely meant to enforce the state’s 2013 ban on ammunition magazines capable of holding more than 15 rounds.

Senate Bill 3 is still expected to pass legislation, since it has enough supporters to clear the chamber.

Of the 23 Democrats in the chamber, 19 have expressed their support according to The Colorado Sun.

The bill is scheduled for a preliminary vote on Friday.
