Songwriter Christopher Morse and Producer Ian Steele team up to bring you Songcraft: Songwriter Showcase. A deep dive with storytellers.
This project is funded in part by a grant from the Boulder Arts Commission, an agency of the Boulder City Council.
Songcraft:
Songwriters are the architects of sonic emotion, crafting universes in three-minute masterpieces. They wield metaphors like paintbrushes, infuse stories with heartbeats, and turn silence into a canvas of resonance. In the grand amphitheater of musical creation, songwriters stand as the virtuoso architects, building bridges between hearts and harmonies, reminding us that life’s cadence is most vividly felt when painted with the ink of their genius. With the Songcraft Series, Christopher Morse and Ian Steele will bring local songwriters to Roots Music Project to share their craft and stories.
This month features:
Tim Ostdiek:
Tim Ostdiek is an uplifting folk musician that encapsulates the soul of The Heartland. His latest album, “The Lost Days”, is a contemplative concept album that takes you on a journey of his younger self into older age and highlights a mix of introspection and vulnerability. Originally from Nebraska, and now a long-time Colorado resident, Tim has become a staple in Longmont, CO, and along The Front Range for his musicianship, lyricism, and professionalism.
Kaitlyn Williams:
Aside from the brief period of time when she wanted to be a professional basketball player, Kaitlyn Williams has always wanted to be a working musician. The singer-songwriter, who has lived in Denver her whole life, discovered her love of music when she started taking piano lessons in the first grade. She began writing her own songs soon after, in protest of her piano teacher’s strictly classical instruction. From there she tried to learn any instrument she could get her hands on, including violin, clarinet and guitar, which she taught herself in high school.
Dechen Hawk:
Like Stevie Wonder and Jeff Buckley thrown in a blender, Indie Soul Balladeer Dechen Hawk creates music that ranges from beautiful ballads to gritty throwback funk and soul. He believes conscious music has the power to heal and transform humanity for the better. Hawk’s call pierces the state of unawareness and asks you to speak the truth.
Olivia Roumel:
Olivia Roumel is a Denver-based vocalist and singer-songwriter, embracing a soulful and vocal-centric sound. She infuses her songs with R&B and neo-soul influences, held down by her foundation and exploration in jazz. Liv’s love and time spent in the wilderness has seeped its way into her lyrical landscapes, creating metaphors within vivid stories of inner growth.
