This past July, ten members of Planina traveled to the country of Georgia for a two-week study trip. Situated at the crossroads of Eastern Europe and Central Asia, Georgia is a fascinating country and home to rich and unique polyphonic singing traditions. Planina studied with five groups of singers in three different folkloric regions and experienced the extraordinary hospitality, wine, complex history, and natural beauty the country is famous for. They returned with a wealth of new material, recordings and memories.
This concert is the group’s opportunity to say thanks to local fans who helped support them in making the trip and to share some of the musical treasures and photos they brought back. In addition to Georgian songs, this concert will feature Planina’s usual lively assortment of tunes from other countries, including Albania, Bulgaria, Romania, Russia and Ukraine, and Rom traditions.
