Friends of Chamber Music opens its 2023-24 Piano Series with pianist Michelle Cann. Wednesday, October 4, 7:30 pm in Gates Concert Hall, Newman Center for the Performing Arts, 2344 E. Iliff Avenue.
Lauded as “technically fearless with…an enormous, rich sound” (La Scena Musicale), pianist Michelle Cann made her orchestral debut at age fourteen and has since performed as a soloist with prominent orchestras such as the Atlanta and Cincinnati symphony orchestras, The Cleveland Orchestra, the New Jersey Symphony, and The Philadelphia Orchestra. Cann had the audience on their feet when she made her debut with the Colorado Music Festival earlier this summer.
Cann is the recipient of the 2022 Sphinx Medal of Excellence, the highest honor bestowed by the Sphinx Organization, dedicated to the development of Black and Latinx classical musicians. Her program reflects her commitment to and passionate advocacy of music by underrepresented composers, with works by Hazel Scott, Nathan Gulla, and Joel Thompson, as well as Maurice Ravel and Alberto Ginastera. “A compelling, sparkling virtuoso” – Boston Music Intelligencer
Tickets are $55 general admission; $15 for guests 30 and younger; $5 for students (with ID). A livestream option is also available. Tickets available online, www.friendsofchambermusic.com, or at the door.
