Martin Gilmore & The Cody Sisters play Jimmie Rodgers & The Carter Family

February 24 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm MST

Martin Gilmore and The Cody Sisters Band take you back to the 1920s, as Martin performs the songs of Jimmie Rodgers, and The Cody Sisters perform selections from the Carter Family’s legendary catalog. Come away with a fresh appreciation of the roots of country music!

In 1927, Ralph Peer of the Victor Talking Machine Company embarked on a journey to record the music of the Appalachian region. Arriving in Bristol, Tennessee in July, he set up his recording equipment in a building on State Street and recorded several local artists and musicians. During these sessions, two of these groups, The Carter Family and Jimmie Rodgers, would spark a new and unique genre of American music that came to be known as country music.

Martin Gilmore is an instructor at the University of Northern Colorado in the Folk and Bluegrass Program. He also teaches bluegrass and songwriting at Swallow Hill Music Association. He has toured nationally and internationally as a solo artist as well as with his acclaimed bluegrass band, Long Road Home.

The Cody Sisters Band is the very heart of contemporary acoustic music in Colorado, the United States and UK. Their propulsive instrumental solos and warm harmonies combine to grip the listener. Along with their bass player Will Pavilonis, Megan (guitar, mandolin, vocals) and Maddie (guitar, mandolin, banjo, vocals) have forged a new sound that has no equivalent match in the acoustic world today. Their sound is original, exhilarating, and heartwarming all at the same time. With strong ties to traditional American acoustic music, they continue to stun their audiences both in the US and abroad.
