Chicken Wire Empire was born out of an Old & In The Way tribute. This rite of passage was confirmed years later, when Peter Rowan would join the band for an epic version of “Land of the Navajo” as well as having Peter Rowan sing lead vocals on The Ballad of Dan Toe off of the CWE collaboration album Fresh Pickles.
This night we’ll play one set of the original music, along with a tribute set to Old & In The Way featuring our dear friend Josy Rosales.
Chicken Wire Empire
Formed in Wisconsin, Chicken Wire Empire has emerged as a pioneering force in the Upper Midwest contemporary bluegrass scene. Their journey began with a homage to Old & In The Way, sparking a unique sound that combined roots with progressive elements. Their rise in Milwaukee’s music scene led to national acclaim, documented in the film All It Takes. Their sophomore album, What Moves Mountains, showcased their growth, earning international praise during a tour throughout Germany, Austria and Switzerland
Adapting to 2020’s challenges, they embraced virtual performances and released a collaboration with Chris Castino: Fresh Pickles. With ongoing creative ventures, including unique tributes and genre-blending renditions, Chicken Wire Empire looks to the future, with a goal to strengthen Wisconsin’s bluegrass scene, and further the appreciation of acoustic music.
