Simple Math is a Jazz trio flavored with Hip Hop, Afro Cuban, Rock, World, and many other influential musical genres.
Leader and Keyboardist Charles Blenzig, relocated to Colorado two years ago from NYC, where he was a part of the jazz scene for over 35 years.
Charles has worked with The Gil Evans Orchestra, Michael Brecker, Gato Barbieri, Bill Evans (Sax w. Miles Davis), Marcus Miller, Mike Stern, Will Lee, Larry Coryell, Eddie Gomez, Grady Tate, Patti Austin, Roy Ayers, John Patitucci, Harvey Mason, Lee Ritenour, Dennis Chambers, Dave Weckl, and many others. Charles is also the Musical Director for singer-songwriter Michael Franks, for whom he also arranged and performed Franks’ music with the Nashville Symphony Orchestra.
This trio’s members include prodigy drummer, JJ Mazza, and bassist and visual artist extraordinaire, Hunter Roberts, on both upright and electric basses.
JJ is currently studying on full scholarship at the prestigious Manhattan School of Music where he received a full scholarship. He graduated from Denver School of The Arts where he studied with Alejandro Castano and also attended the Colorado Conservatory for Jazz Arts under the direction of Paul Romaine.
Hunter, a University of Denver graduate with a degree in Music and Visual Arts, has performed with Robert Randolph, Maurice “Mobetter) Brown, Big Gigantic, Break Science, Pimps Of Joytime, Matt Wilson, Colin Stranahan, and The Colorado Symphony, among others.
The group has a diverse repertoire from Thelonious Monk and Wayne Shorter, to Radiohead, D’Angelo, originals and much more.
