Artful Reflections

March 26 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm MDT

Artful Reflections is Athena Project’s latest program, designed to uplift women artists. Because the pandemic led to isolation and disconnection, we offer this opportunity to connect artists with each other and their communities.

This monthly event, open to artists and non-artists, invites reflection about the artwork. The participants’ experience of the art and the moderated conversations that follow strengthen connection and community. Taking place at a gallery (owned or curated by artists who identify as women and underrepresented genders), participants have the opportunity to let the art in as a way to increase understanding of themselves and others. Featured women and underrepresented artists are invited to listen to the impact of their art.

Join us for our next iteration of this program, on March 26th from 6:30 – 8:30 pm, at The Stranded Pilgrim inside the Denver Milk Market. (1800 Wazee Street, Denver) curated by Angela Astle and Lucia DiVeste-Severtson of Brave Women’s Transformation Theatre Project ( www.bravewomentransform.com) on March 26 at 6:30pm-8:30pm.

Several commissioned artists from “Women In Their Infinite Forms” will attend as follows:
Sarah Tenney
Jean Marie Hewitt
Shanel Hughes
Michelle Joy Wecksler

About Athena Project: Athena Project empowers all women and underrepresented genders through the arts by providing them with paid work opportunities while also ensuring audiences get to see and hear their artistic works. We change the world, one paid underrepresented artist at a time. Our programs evolve as the political and social landscape changes.

At present, they include: Read & Rant: A Plays in Progress Series, a book club that serves the needs of new playwrights, providing them with readers and dramaturgical support while providing community members with opportunities to support new work. Curating Art for Impact, a collaboration with or on behalf of community partners, providing unique experiential art such as pop-up performances which elevate and amplify their missions. Artful Reflections, a forum which connects artists with their audiences and fellow artists with a facilitated discussion about the emotional impact of the art through the lens of the attendants’ world views and identities. Girls Create, summer intensive week-long camps for middle school girls and nonbinary youth which explore art forms like playwriting, fashion design, stand up comedy and self-expression through art, culminating in final performances shared with friends, family, and the public. This program empowers girls and nonbinary youth to lead and effect change in themselves and others through creative learning.

*Athena Project recognizes that gender and identity are part of a spectrum and can be complex topics. We welcome dialogue and questions. We also wish to create a safer space for the expression and growth of all women and underrepresented identities including trans, intersex, nonbinary and genderfluid people who are also members of the LGBTQIA+ community.
