On August 5, India’s Hindu nationalist government, the Bharatiya Janata Party, issued an executive decree, revoking Article 370 or the Indian constitution, which stripped Kashmir of autonomy. Kashmir, one of the most militarized regions in the world, is Muslim-majority and has been a disputed territory between Pakistan and India, which both claim Kashmir. China also controls a small part of Kashmir.
Since August 5, Indian authorities have cut off all lines of communication, restricted movement and put Kashmiri politicians under house arrest.
David Barsamian of Alternative Radio has been reporting on Kashmir for many years, resulting in the Indian government denying him entry into the country in 2011. He joins us to talk about the situation in Kashmir.
